Where I'm From... (Poetry Assignment)

This assignment is based on George Ella Lyon's poem, "Where I'm From."  You can view her poem here.

Below are rough drafts from brainstorming my own rendition:

  1. You paint a picture from your brainstorming alone, and the way it all connected in your rough draft is beautiful! I am wondering about you Trail of Tears line. Do you have Native American heritage? Or is that merely in reference to your ancestors moving westward?

Also your handwriting is so pretty, and I'm jealous. Mine always looks like I'm very drunk and vaguely distracted at all times.

    1. Ha! That cracks me up. Now I want to see your handwriting. ;)

Yes, my mom is part of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and so was my grandfather. On my dad's side I have ancestors who took the Oregon Trail and we have excerpts from the family diary that recounts their journey. So that part of my poem was combining both sides of the family. :)

  2. I love how you clearly tell a story but in a mysterious way. I like how it flows and shows meaning behind every word and phrase.
